The scouts really enjoyed climbing and swinging on the high ropes this week at this custom built activity centre. #ItsNotAllAboutTyingKnots (Well, we must confess, quite a lot of knot tying was necessary for this activity, but not by our scouts!)

The Scouts (and one Cub) cycled from the London Eye to the Activity Centre in Byfleet, in aid of the Matthew Hackney Foundation, along the Rivers Thames and Wey. An amazing feat of leg power, endurance and positive attitude. Well done to everyone, a great achievement! #ItsNotAllAboutTyingKnots

This year Scouts from Leopard and Puma troops had an awesome 4-night Easter Camp at Polyapes Campsite in Surrey. The Scouts did a wide range of activities, from learning to prepare firewood using an axe and saw, and learning to cook in the open, to hiking and Wide Games. During the camp some of the senior Scouts went on the overnight Expedition. Scroll down for the pictures and video.

Six scouts took part in the expedition as part of their Chief Scout’s Gold Award. They hiked nearly 20 km over the Surrey hills on the first day, doing their own map reading and carrying everything they needed to set up camp and cook for themselves. After a further 11 km on the second day they joined the rest of the scouts for the Easter Camp. Well done everyone!

Scouts from Leopard and Puma troops completed a one night practice camp at Horsell Common on 31st March. The camp was organised by Rik to help the Scouts prepare for their Expedition Hike during Easter Camp. Following a short walk with kit to the campsite, the Scouts pitched their tents and cooked their dinner on trangias. Scouts had a fun packed night starting off with a quick game followed by a very informative and interesting show & talk by Steve Trippit with his hunting animals. A Harris Hawk, Albino Ferret, Hunting Spaniel and an 18month old Portuguese Pointer.
Afterwards, the Scouts ‘tried’ to learn a new knot from Steve, the evening ended with a game of indoor  hockey.

Puma Troop were fortunate to have the Independent Councillor for Byfleet, Amanda Boote visit and introduce us to the interesting insights of being a local councillor for Byfleet.
From Flooding to Housing to Parks and Greenbelts, Amanda kept the Scout engaged with plenty of interesting questions from the Scouts.
Afterwards this was followed up with discussions about beliefs, ideas to establish a connection with a Scout Troop in Australia, Tying Knots, and to finish, a well deserved Hot Dog.
